Our Story - How did it all start?

Once upon a time, in the midst of the lockdown haze, I found myself in need of a little joy—a pop of colour, a spark of creativity. So, I made myself some tassel earrings to brighten up my Zoom calls. Just for fun, I thought! Little did I know, this small act of creation would spark a whole new journey for me.

Summer 2020 rolled on, and every time I jumped on a call, someone would ask about my earrings. "Where did you get them?" "Oh, I made them," I’d say. And then, like clockwork, they'd ask, "Do you have a store?" It happened so often, it got me thinking... Why didn't I have a store?

With a bit of encouragement (and a whole lot of curiosity), I decided to give it a go. After some research and a leap of faith, I launched my Etsy shop in October 2020. I still remember the thrill of my first sale—it came through within an hour! I couldn't believe it. People wanted my creations. The spark had been lit.

But life has a way of shaking things up, and soon after, I moved back to my hometown in Yorkshire. I took a break from jewellery-making, but that little creative fire inside me never went out. It kept glowing, waiting for the right moment. When I picked up my tools again, I felt something shift. I was ready to expand, to push my boundaries, and that’s how Created By Lau truly came to life in its new home.

Hello! I'm Laura Jane, the hands, heart, and mind behind every piece you see here. With a background in fashion, honed at London College of Fashion and years spent in the industry as a buyer, I know the thrill of wearing something that feels just right. But I also know the sinking feeling of showing up somewhere and seeing someone wearing the exact same thing. That’s why Created By Lau is all about individuality. No mass production here—just one-of-a-kind pieces, made with intention, for women who want to stand out and feel special.

Fast fashion might dominate the market, but it's wreaking havoc on the planet. I wanted to do something different. So, I pour my passion into creating pieces that are as unique as the women who wear them. With each piece, you're not only supporting my small business but also helping to reduce the fast fashion footprint. Plus, I only use UK suppliers for my materials, which means you're championing even more local businesses.
