How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Earrings
Share
You might think that earrings are all the same – after all, they’re little circles dangling from holes in your ears, right? Wrong! There are a huge variety of earrings out there, and each one can be worn to complement different outfits and styles. Choosing earrings that suit your personal style doesn’t need to be hard if you know how to match them up with the rest of your look. Check out this guide on how to pick the perfect pair of earrings for yourself!
Studs
The most popular earring choice for everyday wear, studs are safe, versatile and easy to wear. No matter what you’re wearing, there’s a stud that will look good with it. Whether you want something small and understated or large and showy, there’s a stud style out there for you.
If your personal style is simple, choose a pair of small studs; if your taste runs toward flashier pieces, go big or go home with larger shaped styles in sparkling colours.
Hoops
Sometimes your outfit calls for a set of statement earrings, and hoops are perfect for just that. Hoops also go well with jeans or cropped pants and heels (just remember not to wear them when you have your hair pulled back).
They’re a little more formal than studs, so they look great paired with business casual outfits. Hoops can also be layered with other earrings or worn on their own if you want something simple.
Drop Dangle Earrings
Drop dangling earrings can be a great addition to your jewellery collection as they add flair, but keep in mind that these earring styles often aren’t suitable for every occasion.
These earrings are traditionally best suited for informal events and typically can be too heavy for long periods of time or even cause discomfort. If you find yourself unable to wear dangly earrings, try a smaller style such as studs or delicate hoops.
The thing that makes Created By Lau so different is that my drop dangle earrings are lightweight because of the materials I use which means that they can be worn all day without hurting your ears.
Colours
With so many colours to choose from, you might be wondering what colour best suits your personality. After all, earrings are small pieces of jewellery that are easy to throw on at a moment’s notice, so they should reflect your style.
To find out what colour earring matches your personality type, ask yourself these three questions:
-
Do I prefer bold or neutral colours?
-
Do I like bright shades or muted hues?
-
What colours look good against my skin tone?
Materials
Choosing earrings can seem daunting. With thousands of different types, sizes, colours and materials from which to choose, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, with a little research and an open mind, you can pick out earrings that fit your style perfectly. At Created By Lau, I use polymer clay, resin and yarn to create my jewellery and some of my accessories.
Polymer clay because it is a safe material that is easy to work with. It doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals, and it can be moulded into a variety of shapes.
Resin has all sorts of properties: it is transparent and shiny, strong and flexible. With these great qualities comes a lack of movement, which might not work for everyone. The resin pieces are extremely resistant, but that also means that they won’t flex around your ear if you wear them too loosely. For many women though, strength is a very attractive quality in a piece of jewellery!
Fibre or yarn earrings are wonderful because they’re comfortable, lightweight and flexible. They tend to be very different from other types of jewellery because they look more like hair accessories than earrings. Fibre is created by weaving long threads into beautiful designs, which can then be applied as jewellery.
